Prominent and long-standing creative director and Vice President of The Business Lab, Karl Krieg, formally introduces his new creation — Designer Pet Retreat Homes. While working on a solution to feed his stray cats without feeding all the forest animals, this talented designer has created the most innovative concept!
The concept for Leifers began on a cold winter day in Houston, Texas when the founders, Karl Krieg and Kathy Ellis, fed four starving kittens outside their office. The little black kitty was so skinny we knew he would die before spring. Feeding these kittens brought a whole new world to us. We became educated at trapping feral cats because our landlord would not allow us to continue to feed the kittens. His solution was to poison them. Ours was to save their lives and relocate them. So, we embarked on a journey to save these (and several others as it turns out) precious darlings.
As we were researching the best way to take care of the cats we relocated to our house, Karl stumbled upon a very attractive concept that would keep a cat warm and dry and would keep their food off the ground — safe from other critters. He kept designing the concept — refining it further and further until it became a series of fabulous designer dog and cat houses. By combing architecture, landscape and home décor, these houses were extremely appealing. The idea just kept with us and today, these houses are the cornerstone of our new business — Leifers.
